Had a session for 2 hours flew a 9 but could have flown an 11. Wind was really clean and there was allot of surge up the beach on the high tide but I got it right on the ebb so was able to stay up wind. The surf was big and chunky with some fun inside double ups.
ENE 20 to 30 Gusty flat water. We had never kited here before. Super cold and fun for awhile then the wind backed off so we went up north to HMSC for a session. It was pretty fun but We were overpowered on 11 and 12, Jim was on his 9 and it looked more manageable.
Good surf this past week but not very kitable. I did get a session at HMSC it was a sketchy launch because of the 11ft high tide and I broke a line and crashed my kite. It was a bridle line and I saw some wear on it but did'nt have a replacement with me. Once that spectra line shows any sign of wear you need to replace it. Ultra strong line but when it starts to go it will break.
Victor the Inflictor stopped by and we had a kite lesson. Victor is a world class ski racer and the famous gorge windsurf junky. He was the 2005 and 2006 World Masters Ski Champion. He says yeah its for the old guys but so what. He has been a ski coach for 35 years and has been windsurfing for more than 20 years. He really is a legend and an all around cool guy. It was great doing a lesson with him because of his many years coaching experience. The wind was light and steady 7 to 9 kts so it was good for him to work on his flying skills. He flew the 4m for awhile and then we broke out the 10m. We had a great time and Victor learned something too. I have heaps of respect for Victor so it was really cool for me to give him some instruction and hang out with him for awhile.
NNW 20 to 25kts. W swell @14ft 10 sec. 2.5 hour session. Started out gusty but cleaned up after half an hour. Pretty fun, ocean was a little out of control.
NW 35 to 45. seas W 20ft + 4m conditions? I don't have one. I think it would be kiteable with a small enough kite. Heaps of current, definately be a downwinder.
S 20 to 35kts. Seas 15 to 20ft. 11m Walked down the beach for a downwinder and the wind felt pretty good. Right before I launched it picked up to 30kts. Big ocean with huge tidal surge, the white water was well overhead and surging up the beach 200yds at times. Scrapped the session, it was pretty scary.
WSW 12 to 18, 12ft+ 15m conditions. Big tidal surges made it difficult to kite in light west wind conditions. It had some fun moments but near impossible to stay off the beach with tide surge and wind conditions.
SSW 15 to 25 10+ west swell . 11 meter conditions for the most part, really good when I first went out then it backed off so I walked up the beach for a downwinder hoping it would pick up. It turned out to be a really good session with steady 20 to 25 for about an hour in the afternoon. The colors were surreal and I got caught by a good downpour but with a huge grin on my face.
Flew my 15 this afternoon between squalls. Marginal conditions but it was fun for awhile.
11/8/09 Southwest 15 to 25 with 12ft plus seas. I did a downwinder, it was a bit light for the most part, I flew a 9 because it looked like it could blow harder. I was underpowered with the exception of a few gusts over 25. I am hoping it will be a bit cleaner today.
